What's In A Name?

So, you may be wondering "what IS a Mommy Chicken?"  I had the same question when I received this nickname from a new friend we met on vacation.  Although we only shared a bit of time together, in a beautiful corner of the world, she was an inspiration to me.  So relaxed. So at ease with her children.  How did she manage to nap in the sun while her kids were free to play around her?  I was always hovering, making sure everyone was safe.  I guess that's how she came up with the nickname.  Her being French, it was the closest translation to "Mother Hen."

Since then I have my teenager to thank for teaching me to stop the hovering, and play more of a consultant role in her life.  There to ask her questions, to get her to think for herself.  Remarkable really.  We think we're here to teach them, when all along they have come to teach us.

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."
