What's In A Name?

So, you may be wondering "what IS a Mommy Chicken?"  I had the same question when I received this nickname from a new friend we met on vacation.  Although we only shared a bit of time together, in a beautiful corner of the world, she was an inspiration to me.  So relaxed. So at ease with her children.  How did she manage to nap in the sun while her kids were free to play around her?  I was always hovering, making sure everyone was safe.  I guess that's how she came up with the nickname.  Her being French, it was the closest translation to "Mother Hen."

Since then I have my teenager to thank for teaching me to stop the hovering, and play more of a consultant role in her life.  There to ask her questions, to get her to think for herself.  Remarkable really.  We think we're here to teach them, when all along they have come to teach us.

By any other name would smell as sweet."

Needs New Home - Please Santa?

If I could I would.  Oh yes indeedy, I can't resist.  The cuteness is just too much!  Oh how I would pretend to be Beatrix Potter, or Jann Brett, or or, I don't know, but have you ever?  Really?  Very low maintainence and cost, so I'm told.  African Pygmy Hedgehodge needs a home in Boulder.  $50 includes his home, water bowl, toys, and food.    http://boulder.craigslist.org/pet/2097520685.html.  Now, how to convince Santa??

Jump In!

"You've got to do a thing to learn it."  Mark Twain.

I love that.  Somewhere along the line I read this and it stuck.  What a concept.  Learn as you go.  There can be no mistakes that way right?  Since then, I've built a chicken coop, raised hens, taught myself to sew, crochet, preserve my garden's harvest, and let's see what else?  Oh yes!  Now I'm finally diving into Blog land.  I've been a great admirer of you bloggers for some time, specifically Lucy in Attic 24Jenny DohAngry Chicken, and Maya Made, and thought it was time to join in the fun.  I look forward to building community with like minded folks out there.  Stop by and visit when you can!
